Some pilots prefer headlamps, while others like a small flashlight whichever you prefer make sure it’s not low quality because when it fails you are literally in the dark. I prefer headlamps, biting down on a metal tube while testing fuel or looking for a chart can become tricky.
A good idea is to have a bright setting for outside (too bright is just as bad as to dim) and a dim one for inside. A great function is a red light for preservation of night vision.
